The cheap umbrella is a tax on optimism
Most people own four umbrellas and still get wet.
The first one inverts on a windy platform. The second's ribs snap at the joint. The third lives in a bag, forgotten, until the handle coating peels. None of them were built to be kept — they were built to be replaced.
What actually lasts:
A canopy cut tight enough that it doesn't flap itself to death
Steel ribs that flex and return, not aluminium that folds once and stays folded
A handle you can hold in a coat pocket without thinking about it
Style is the easy part. The hard part is making something you'll still want in three winters. That's the work.
