The 3 things I wish someone told me before I started my first business

Everyone talks about "just start." Nobody tells you what actually happens when you do.

I've spent years studying founders — the ones who made it and the ones who burned out. Here's what separates them:

1. Your first idea doesn't matter as much as your first customer.

Most aspiring founders spend months perfecting a product nobody asked for. The ones who win? They talk to 50 people before writing a single line of code or creating a single post.

2. Revenue is the only metric that counts early on.

Followers, page views, signups — they feel good but they don't pay rent. The fastest path to a real business is getting someone to pay you $1. Then $10. Then $100. Everything else is a distraction.

3. The 9-5 isn't the enemy — lack of leverage is.

A job trades time for money at a fixed rate. A business trades time for money at a variable rate. The goal isn't to "quit your job" — it's to build something where your upside isn't capped.

I break down frameworks like this every week inside The Founder's Edge. If you're a student or recent grad trying to build your first thing, this is the playbook.
