The 3 things that actually matter in your first 90 days as a founder

Most first-time founders waste their first 3 months building features nobody asked for. Here's what actually moves the needle:

1. Talk to 50 people before writing a single line of code.

Not surveys. Real conversations. Ask them what's painful, what they've tried, and what they'd pay to fix. If you can't find 50 people who care about the problem, you don't have a business — you have a hobby.

2. Sell before you build.

Pre-sell access, collect deposits, or run a waitlist. If nobody will pay for a promise, they won't pay for a product either. Revenue validates faster than any MVP.

3. Pick one metric and ignore everything else.

First-time founders drown in dashboards. Choose the ONE number that proves your business is working (usually revenue or weekly active users) and optimize ruthlessly for it. Everything else is noise.

The founders who win aren't smarter — they just stop doing the things that don't matter sooner.

I break down frameworks like this every week at The Founder's Edge. Subscribe if you're building something and want to skip the expensive mistakes.
