The 3 mistakes every beginner makes in their first 6 months of lifting
I've seen hundreds of guys walk into a gym for the first time with the best intentions and then quietly disappear 2-3 months later. It's almost always the same 3 things:
1. Program hopping. You do PPL for 2 weeks, switch to bro split, try Starting Strength, then end up doing random exercises you saw on TikTok. Pick ONE program and stick with it for at least 12 weeks. Progressive overload only works if you're consistent enough to track it.
2. Ignoring nutrition. You can't out-train a bad diet, but you also don't need to be obsessive. Hit your protein target (0.7-1g per lb of bodyweight), eat mostly whole foods, and stop overthinking it. Beginners don't need meal prep perfection — they need protein and consistency.
3. Ego lifting. Nobody in the gym cares how much you bench. Drop the weight, nail the form, feel the muscle working. You'll grow faster, stay injury-free, and actually build the physique you want instead of just moving heavy things badly.
If any of this sounds like you — that's exactly why I built The Grind Lab. It's a community for guys 18-25 who are just getting started and want real guidance, not just motivation posts.
