The #1 mistake intermediate lifters make (and the fix)

Most people who've been training 1-3 years hit the same wall: they're doing random workouts instead of following a structured program.

You know the type — Monday is always chest, they throw in whatever exercises feel right, and wonder why their bench hasn't moved in 6 months.

The fix isn't more volume. It's not a new split. It's periodization.

Progressive overload only works when your training is organized into blocks with specific goals:

  • Accumulation — build work capacity with moderate weight, higher reps

  • Intensification — push intensity up, lower volume, peak strength

  • Deload — recover and set up the next block

This is exactly how The Grind Protocol is structured. Every month, you get a new training block that builds on the last — so you're always progressing, never just "working out."

If your lifts have been stuck, it's not a you problem. It's a programming problem.
