The 3 exercises every beginner should master first
Most beginners waste months bouncing between random YouTube workouts. Here's what actually matters when you're starting out.
1. The Goblet Squat
Forget barbell squats for now. Grab a dumbbell, hold it at your chest, and squat. It forces good form and builds your legs, core, and mobility all at once. 3 sets of 10, twice a week.
2. The Push-Up (done right)
Most people do push-ups wrong. Hands under shoulders, elbows at 45 degrees, full range of motion. Can't do a full one? Start on your knees — there's zero shame in that. Progress beats ego every time.
3. The Dead Hang
Grab a pull-up bar and just hang. 3 sets, as long as you can. This builds grip strength, decompresses your spine, and sets you up for pull-ups down the road.
Master these three before you add anything else. Consistency on the basics beats complexity every single time.
I break down exercises like this every week inside The Grind Report — simple plans, real advice, zero fluff.
