The 3 channels that actually work for your first 1,000 customers
Most startup advice tells you to "be on every platform." That's a recipe for burnout at 0 customers.
After breaking down dozens of startups that cracked their first 1K, here's what actually moves the needle:
1. Cold outreach that doesn't feel cold
Forget spray-and-pray emails. The founders winning right now send 20 hyper-personalized messages per day on LinkedIn/X. Not pitching — starting conversations about the prospect's actual problem. One founder I know landed 340 paying users in 60 days doing only this.
2. SEO content that targets buying intent
Not "what is [category]" articles. Target "best [tool] for [specific use case]" and "[competitor] alternatives." These people already have their wallet out. Takes 3-6 months to compound but it's the highest-quality traffic you'll ever get.
3. Community-led distribution
Find the 5 communities where your ideal customers already hang out. Don't drop links. Answer questions, share insights, become the go-to person. When you finally mention your product, people already trust you.
The playbook is always the same: go deep on 1-2 channels, not wide on 7. Master one before adding another.
I break down exactly how to execute these strategies (with real numbers and templates) every week inside The Growth Playbook.
