3 Essential Oil Mistakes Every Beginner Makes (And What to Do Instead)

I've been working with essential oils for years, and I keep seeing the same three mistakes over and over from beginners:

1. Applying undiluted oils directly to skin.

This is the fastest way to get a bad reaction. Always dilute with a carrier oil — coconut, jojoba, or sweet almond work great. A good starting ratio is 2-3 drops per teaspoon of carrier.

2. Assuming "natural" means "safe for everyone."

Some oils aren't safe around pets, young children, or during pregnancy. Eucalyptus, tea tree, and peppermint all have specific cautions. Always research before diffusing in shared spaces.

3. Buying based on price alone.

Cheap oils are often diluted or synthetic. They won't give you the results you're looking for and can even cause headaches. Look for oils that list the botanical name, country of origin, and extraction method on the label.

If you want a complete beginner's guide that covers all of this (and way more), I put together an ebook that breaks it all down in plain language — no MLM pitches, no pseudoscience. Just practical knowledge you can use today.
