Real talk for anyone starting out in the trades.

1. Your speed doesn't matter yet — your habits do. Every journeyman I've worked under said the same thing: slow is smooth, smooth is fast. Build clean habits now and the speed comes naturally.

2. Ask questions before you cut. Measure twice, cut once isn't just for carpenters. If you're not 100% sure about a connection, ask. Nobody worth working with will judge you for it.

3. Learn to read prints early. Most apprentices avoid blueprints because they look intimidating. Spend 30 minutes a day with them and within a month you'll be reading them faster than Google Maps.

4. Your tools are an investment, not an expense. Buy quality hand tools from day one. Your Klein strippers will outlast three sets of cheap ones. Take care of your gear and it takes care of you.

5. Find your people. The trades can be isolating, especially if you're learning on your own. Having a crew to bounce ideas off of makes the difference between burning out and building a career.
