I dressed like a teenage boy for 20 years. Here's what happened when I stopped.
I'm 40-something, gay, a photographer, and until recently I owned nothing but oversized band tees and basketball shorts.
Not a style choice. More like a style avoidance.
It wasn't that I didn't care about how I looked — I cared too much. So I hid behind clothes that said nothing. Safe. Invisible. Easy.
Then one day I tried on a structured jacket over a simple white tee. Looked in the mirror and didn't recognize myself — in the best way. Something clicked.
Since then I've been obsessed. Not with trends or luxury brands, but with figuring out what actually looks and feels like me. The tomboy thing isn't going anywhere — but the teenage boy era is over.
I'm documenting the whole process. Every fit. Every discovery. Every mistake. And eventually, I'm turning what I learn into a clothing line — because I know I'm not the only one who's been looking for this.
