Why modern dating feels so exhausting (and what actually helps)

I've talked to hundreds of people in their 20s and 30s about dating. Almost all of them say the same thing: it's never been easier to meet someone and never been harder to actually connect with someone.

Here's what I think is actually going on:

We've optimized for volume, not depth. Dating apps reward swiping, not connecting. Most conversations die after 3 messages — not because there's no chemistry, but because nobody knows how to push past the surface anymore.

Vulnerability got rebranded as weakness. Everyone's performing a version of themselves online that's slightly cooler, slightly more unbothered than reality. So you end up with two people pretending to care less than they do, and nothing real ever gets built.

"Keeping options open" kills momentum. When someone feels like one of ten conversations you're half-interested in, they can tell. And they pull back. And you think they're not interested. And it goes nowhere.

None of this is your fault — it's a structural problem with how modern dating works. But knowing the pattern is the first step to not getting trapped in it.

That's what The Love Letter is about. Every week, practical insight on navigating this honestly. No fluff, no platitudes.

Welcome to The Love Letter 💌

Hey, glad you're here.

This is your space for real, honest conversations about modern dating and relationships — no sugarcoating, no generic advice that sounds nice but doesn't actually work.

Here's what to expect each week:

  • A fresh issue — practical, specific, and always actionable

  • Community Chat — jump in, share what's on your mind, ask questions, connect with others who get it

  • Real talk — the stuff most people are too polished to say out loud (situationships, mixed signals, dating app fatigue, all of it)

If you have a topic you want me to tackle in a future issue — drop it in the chat. I read everything.

Welcome to the community. Let's figure this out together. 💌
