5 school lunchbox mistakes I see parents make every September
My kid started school 3 years ago and I was that parent — Googling "what to pack for school lunch" at 6am, panicking.
After feeding my kid (and half his friends, apparently) for 3 years straight, here are the mistakes I kept making early on:
1. Going too ambitious on Day 1. You see those Pinterest lunchboxes with carved fruit animals? That lasts exactly 2 days. Start simple. A good sandwich, some fruit, a crunchy snack. Done.
2. Not asking your kid what they'll actually eat. I packed beautiful salads that came home untouched. Now I let my kid pick from 3 options the night before. Game changer.
3. Forgetting that kids trade food. Your kid will swap that homemade granola bar for a chocolate biscuit. Accept it. Just make sure the main meal is solid.
4. Overcomplicating prep. You don't need to cook every morning. Batch prep on Sunday: chop veggies, make sandwich fillings, portion out snacks. 15 minutes of prep saves 5 hours of stress.
5. Not rotating enough. Kids get bored fast. If you're making the same ham sandwich every day, they'll stop eating it by Wednesday. Even small swaps (different bread, different sauce) keep things fresh.
I put together 50+ tested recipes that solve all of this — simple stuff that kids actually eat and parents can prep in minutes. Check out The Lunchbox Guide if you want the full playbook.
