The 60-second reset that changed how I handle stress
I used to react to everything. Someone cuts me off in traffic — angry. Bad news at work — spiral. Couldn't sleep because my brain wouldn't shut up.
Then I learned one technique that literally rewires how your nervous system responds to stress. Takes 60 seconds.
It's called Box Breathing:
Breathe in for 4 seconds
Hold for 4 seconds
Breathe out for 4 seconds
Hold for 4 seconds
Repeat 3-4 times
That's it. Navy SEALs use this before missions. Surgeons use it before operations. And now you can use it before that meeting, that conversation, or just when life feels heavy.
The key isn't the breathing itself — it's that you're training your brain to pause instead of react. Every time you do it, you're building the muscle of self-control.
I built MindShift Academy around this idea: small daily reps that compound into a completely different mindset. Breathing exercises, morning routines, journaling prompts, and a 7-day plan to get you started.
If you've been feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or just ready to be better than your old self — try the box breathing right now. Set a timer. Do 4 rounds. Then come back and tell me how you feel.
