The 3 biggest mistakes beginner investors make (and what to do instead)

I've been investing for years, and I see the same 3 mistakes killing beginners over and over:

1. Chasing hype stocks instead of building a foundation

If your portfolio is 100% meme stocks, you don't have a portfolio — you have a casino account. Start with broad index funds (like VTI or VOO), then add individual picks once you understand valuation.

2. Checking your portfolio 10x a day

The market moves every second. Your strategy shouldn't. Set a review schedule (weekly or monthly) and stick to it. Emotional trading is how you lose money.

3. Waiting for the "perfect" time to start

Time in the market beats timing the market. Every single time. If you had invested $100/month starting 5 years ago, you'd have significantly more than someone who waited for a dip that never came.

The best time to start was yesterday. The second best time is now.

I break down plays like this every week inside The Money Wire — market analysis, stock picks, and wealth-building strategies for people who are just getting started.
