The 3-Second Rule That Changed How I Read Every Room
Most people walk into a room and immediately start thinking about themselves — how they look, where to stand, what to say.
That's backwards.
Here's what I do instead: for the first 3 seconds, I don't speak, I don't move to anyone. I just scan.
What I'm looking for:
Who's facing who — body orientation reveals who actually wants to be in a conversation vs. who's trapped in one
The loudest person vs. the most watched person — rarely the same. The one everyone keeps glancing at? That's the real power in the room
Open vs. closed clusters — groups standing in a circle with no gaps are a closed conversation. Don't force your way in. Look for V-shapes — those are invitations
In 3 seconds, you've already mapped the social hierarchy that took everyone else 30 minutes of awkward small talk to figure out.
This is what I teach inside The Pattern — how to read people, situations, and dynamics before you even open your mouth. It's not manipulation. It's awareness. And once you see it, you can't unsee it.
