How I went from beauty obsessed to beauty brand founder (what I wish I knew sooner)
I used to spend hours watching formulation videos on YouTube, mixing things in my kitchen, dreaming about having my own brand.
But every time I tried to figure out the "business side," I hit a wall. Where do you even find a manufacturer? How do you know if your formula is safe? What makes someone actually buy YOUR product over the 50 others at Ulta?
Here's what nobody tells you:
You don't need a chemistry degree or $50,000 to launch a beauty product brand. What you need is a clear process — formulation → testing → branding → launch.
The beauty industry is one of the few places where a small creator with a great product and a real story can genuinely compete. Consumers are actively looking for independent brands.
A few things that actually matter when starting:
Niche > broad. "Skincare" loses. "Hydrating serum for dark skin tones with hyperpigmentation" wins.
Your story is part of the product. People buy from people.
Start with one hero product. Not five. One. Do it really well.
If you're at the "I know I want to do this but don't know how to start" stage — that's exactly who The Product Kitchen was built for.
