A Japanese hotel receptionist complimented my pronunciation after 60 days of studying
Two months ago I couldn't read a single Japanese character. Last week in Tokyo, I checked into a hotel and the receptionist said: "日本語がお上手ですね" — "Your Japanese is very good."
Was my Japanese actually good? Absolutely not. But I could:
Read the check-in form
Say my reservation details without pulling out Google Translate
Understand "breakfast is on the 3rd floor from 7 to 10"
Ask where the nearest konbini was
That's not fluency. That's functional competence. And it took 60 days.
Here's exactly what those 60 days looked like:
Weeks 1-2: Hiragana only. 20 min/day writing practice.
Week 3: Katakana. Same approach.
Weeks 4-6: Basic grammar patterns. Particles, verb forms, sentence structure.
Weeks 7-8: Vocabulary building through context. Travel phrases, food, directions, numbers.
Total daily commitment: 25-30 minutes.
I didn't use any apps. I didn't take classes. I followed a structured system and didn't skip days.
The compliment wasn't about talent. It was about consistency + structure. Anyone can do this. You just need a method that tells you exactly what to do each day.
That's why I made The Samurai Method. Same system, same sequence, same results.
