The #1 reason mid-handicappers can't break 80 (and how to fix it)
I grew up playing golf in France, where course conditions force you to be creative. When I moved to the US, I noticed something: American mid-handicappers hit the ball far enough — distance isn't the problem.
The problem is course management.
Most 10-20 handicappers lose 5-8 strokes per round on decisions, not swings. They aim at tucked pins instead of the fat side of the green. They try to carry the bunker instead of laying up to their favorite wedge distance. They pull driver on a tight par 4 when a 5-iron leaves them 130 in the fairway.
Here's a quick test: next round, play every approach shot to the center of the green. Ignore the pin entirely. Aim middle-middle. I guarantee you'll shoot 2-4 strokes lower without changing a single thing in your swing.
Your swing is probably fine. Your strategy needs work.
That's what I teach inside The Stripe Show — swing fundamentals paired with course strategy that actually drops scores. Because breaking 80 isn't about hitting it perfect. It's about managing imperfect.
