Everyone talks about Khao San Road and the Grand Palace. Here's what they don't tell you.

1. Talat Noi — Bangkok's forgotten Chinatown. Tiny streets, incredible street art, and a cafe culture that rivals Melbourne. Zero tourists.

2. Bang Krachao — They call it Bangkok's "green lung." Rent a bike, cross the river by ferry (3 baht), and ride through jungle paths 15 minutes from Sukhumvit.

3. Wat Suthat at sunset — Every tourist goes to Wat Pho and Wat Arun. Wat Suthat is arguably more beautiful, has the tallest viharn in Bangkok, and you'll have it almost to yourself.

4. Or Tor Kor Market — Forget Chatuchak for food. This is where Bangkok's chefs shop. The mango sticky rice here is the best in the city. Period.

5. Phra Khanong night market — A local neighbourhood market where nothing's priced for tourists. Pad kra pao for 40 baht, cold Singha, plastic chairs on the street. This is the real Bangkok.
