If you study humanities in a language that is not your strongest, this is the real problem:

you can follow the lecture.

you can highlight the PDF.

you still cannot produce the answer when the clock is running.

That is not a discipline problem. It is a gap between three skills that get treated as one:

1. Understanding (you have this)

2. Retention (gone in three days)

3. Academic expression (the word is étayer, not "support," and you need it in a sentence)

What I started doing after a lecture:

Level 1 — explain it in English, no notes.

Level 2 — explain it in simple French.

Level 3 — explain it with the actual academic verbs.

Level 4 — answer a fake exam question in 12 minutes.

If I fail level 1, I did not learn it. I just recognized it.

If I fail level 3, I know it and still cannot use it.

Most study planners skip this. They organize notes you will not remember.

Try it on one concept tonight. If you cannot get past level 1, that is your starting point — not another reread.
