1. Region over brand. A $12 bottle from Languedoc will often drink better than a $30 Napa Cab because you're paying for the wine, not the zip code.

1. Vintage matters. A great year in a cheap region can produce wines that compete with bottles 5x the price. 2019 and 2020 in the Rhône Valley? Absolutely stacked.

1. Drink what you actually like. Wine culture has a snobbery problem. If you love a Malbec with a burger, that's not a guilty pleasure — that's a great pairing.
