That puts it in the elevated zone. The VIX tracks how big a swing traders expect from the S&P 500 over the next 30 days, so above 20 means the market is paying up for protection. SPY is down 0.50% on the day so far.


Elevated VIX doesn't call a top or a bottom. It means wider ranges, so size down and give your stops room.
