The #1 mistake beginners make when trying to get organized

Most people trying to get organized make the same mistake: they buy storage bins and containers BEFORE they declutter.

Here's the problem — if you organize clutter, you just end up with really neatly organized clutter. You still own too much stuff, and now it's in fancy bins.

The order that actually works:

  1. Declutter first (decide what you're keeping)

  2. THEN figure out what storage you actually need for what's left

The other big mistake: trying to organize your entire house in one exhausting weekend. It burns you out, you make rushed decisions, and most people quit halfway through with a bigger mess than they started with.

Instead — pick one drawer, one shelf, or one small zone. Finish it completely. Feel the win. Then move to the next one. Organizing is a habit, not a one-time event.

If you want a step-by-step system for this (declutter method, storage strategy, room-by-room plan), I put together a full beginner course called Tidy Foundations. Happy to answer questions here either way!
