The 3-Second Rule: Why Most TikToks Die Before They Start
I've written hundreds of TikTok scripts and the #1 mistake creators make is burying the hook.
Here's the truth: you have about 3 seconds before someone swipes. That's it. And most creators waste those 3 seconds on "Hey guys, so today I wanted to talk about..."
Nobody cares. Not yet.
What works instead:
1. Pattern interrupt — Say something unexpected. "Stop scrolling if you've ever..." or start mid-sentence like you're already in a conversation.
2. Visual hook + verbal hook — Your first frame matters as much as your first words. Movement, text overlay, or a prop that makes someone pause.
3. Open a loop — Create curiosity that MUST be resolved. "I tested this for 30 days and the results were insane" works because the brain can't leave an open loop.
The script structure that gets views:
Hook (0-3 sec): Pattern interrupt or curiosity gap
Tension (3-15 sec): Build the story or problem
Payoff (15-30 sec): Deliver the value
CTA (last 3 sec): Tell them what to do next
Most creators write content. The ones who blow up write scripts.
If you want custom scripts written for your niche that actually drive views and engagement, that's literally what I do at AI Tik.
