the 3 boundary scripts that changed everything for me

i used to say yes to everything. extra shifts, "quick favours" that took 3 hours, emotional dumps from people who never asked how i was doing.

not because i wanted to. because i literally didn't have the words to say no without the guilt spiral.

so i started writing scripts. not therapy-speak. not "i feel" statements from a poster in a guidance counsellor's office. actual sentences you can text back at 11pm when someone asks you to cover their shift tomorrow.

here are 3 that changed the game:

๐Ÿ”‹ for when you're at 10% battery:

"i can't take that on right now." that's it. no explanation. no "sorry." no alternative offered. just a full stop.

๐Ÿ”‹ for when you're at 40% battery:

"i'd normally say yes, but i'm protecting my time this week. can we revisit next week?" โ€” acknowledges the ask without absorbing it.

๐Ÿ”‹ for when you're at 70% battery:

"i can help with [specific small thing] but i can't do [the full thing they asked]. does that work?" โ€” you set the scope, not them.

the trick isn't confidence. it's having the sentence ready before the moment hits. that's why i built the boundary toolkit โ€” 32 pages of scripts like these, organized by how tired you are.

because sometimes self-care isn't a bath bomb. it's a text message that says "no."
