3 Mistakes That Blew Up My Futures Account (And How I Fixed Them)
I've been trading futures for years. Blew up two accounts before things clicked. Here's what I wish someone told me early:
1. Over trading the open.
The first 15 minutes look like free money. They're not. I used to take 4-5 trades before 9:45 AM and wonder why I was red by lunch. Now I sit on my hands until the setup comes to me. Patience isn't passive — it's a strategy.
2. No hard stop, just "mental" stops.
"I'll get out if it goes against me." No you won't. You'll freeze, move your stop, and take a bigger loss than you planned. Hard stops saved my career. Every. Single. Trade.
3. Risking too much on "conviction" plays.
Confidence is good. Betting 5% of your account on one NQ trade because it "feels right" isn't confidence — it's gambling. I keep risk at 1-2% max now. Boring? Maybe. But I'm still here.
The market doesn't care how smart you are. It only cares about your discipline.
If this hits home — I run a private community where I will share my futures setups every week through and live sessions. Every trader are welcome. Link's on my page.
