The real reason most retail FX traders stay inconsistent (it's not strategy)

I've watched hundreds of traders cycle through strategies, signal groups, and prop-firm attempts — myself included early on. The pattern is always the same, and it's rarely a strategy problem.

Here's what actually separates consistent traders from the ones stuck in the loop:

1. They trade less, not more. Most blown accounts aren't from bad setups — they're from taking B and C setups because A setups didn't show up that day. If you're not willing to sit on your hands, no strategy will save you.

2. They define "A+" before they open the chart. Not after. If your criteria for a good trade only exist in hindsight, you don't have a system — you have a story you tell yourself after the fact.

3. They size risk to the setup, not the account. A 1% risk rule means nothing if you widen your stop every time price moves against you. Risk management is a pre-trade decision, not a live negotiation.

4. They separate personal accounts from prop-firm accounts mentally. The risk tolerance, drawdown rules, and psychology are different. Trading a challenge account like a personal account (or vice versa) is how a trader can blow both.

5. They review process, not P&L. Win or lose, the question after every trade is "did I follow my rules?" not "did I make money?" You can follow your process perfectly and lose. You can break every rule and get lucky. Only one of those is repeatable.

None of this is exciting. That's kind of the point — consistency rarely is.

If you're rebuilding your process around this, I run a small FX signals community focused on exactly this:

“Disciplined setups following my rules, full risk breakdowns, and the reasoning behind every trade” 💎
