Where I hang a cam first in the Ozarks
First hang of the season, I do not start on a food plot. I start where deer already walk when nobody is watching.
Look for a ridge saddle or a creek crossing with tracks on both sides. In the Ozarks that is often a pinch between two hollers. Hang the camera on a tree about 10 yards off the trail, 3 to 4 feet up, lens angled slightly down. Face it north if you can so the sun does not blow out the photos at first and last light.
Give it two weeks before you move it. Most wasted SD cards come from checking too often and bumping the deer off the pattern you were trying to learn.
