5 Utah trails most newcomers don't know about (but should)
Moved to Utah recently? You've probably already heard about Angels Landing and Delicate Arch. Great spots, but they're packed year-round.
Here are 5 trails that locals actually go to — less crowded, equally jaw-dropping:
1. Coyote Gulch (Escalante) — Slot canyons, natural bridges, and a river you wade through. Best as an overnight backpack. Spring and fall are ideal.
2. Lake Blanche (Big Cottonwood Canyon) — Alpine lake sitting in a glacial cirque. 6.8 miles round trip. The payoff is unreal.
3. Cecret Lake (Alta) — Short hike, massive reward. Wildflowers in summer, golden aspens in fall. Under 2 miles.
4. Wind Caves (Logan Canyon) — Northern Utah gem. Sandstone caves carved by wind erosion with views of Bear Lake. Most Wasatch Front people have never been.
5. Kanarraville Falls (Cedar City) — A slot canyon with waterfalls you climb through. Permits required now, which keeps crowds manageable.
I run group trips to spots like these (and wilder ones) through Trailhead Collective. If you're new to Utah and want to explore with people who actually know the terrain — come join us. It's free.
