The SAT math section isn't hard — you're just studying wrong
Most students waste months grinding practice tests without a strategy. Here's what actually moves the needle:
1. Stop doing full practice tests every week.
Drill the 5 question types that make up 80% of the math section: linear equations, ratios, percentages, data analysis, and quadratics.
2. Learn to identify question types in under 5 seconds.
The SAT recycles the same patterns. Once you can spot the type instantly, you already know the approach.
3. Work backwards from answer choices.
For ~30% of SAT math problems, plugging in answer choices is faster than solving algebraically. This alone can save you 10+ minutes on test day.
4. Time yourself per question, not per section.
75 seconds per question. Can't crack it? Flag it, move on. Coming back with fresh eyes often unlocks the answer.
5. Review wrong answers like a scientist.
Figure out why you got it wrong. Careless mistake? Concept gap? Time issue? Each one has a different fix.
