Why I stopped charging per wash
Ran a car wash the old way for a while — $15-25 a visit, cash or card, hoping people came back often enough to keep the lights on. Problem: most people only wash when the car's visibly filthy, so revenue was lumpy and half my regulars felt nickel-and-dimed every time they pulled in.
Switched to a flat monthly membership instead. Same wash quality, but customers pay once and come as often as they want — rain or shine, once a week or every day. A few things I noticed almost immediately:
Visit frequency roughly doubled. When there's no per-visit cost, people stop rationing washes.
Revenue got predictable. I know what's coming in before the month even starts.
Customers stopped comparison-shopping. Once they're a member, they're not cross-checking the guy down the street's price sheet.
If you're running any kind of recurring-service business (detailing, washes, lawn care, whatever) and you're still billing per visit, you're leaving retention and predictability on the table. Membership pricing isn't just a discount gimmick — it changes customer behavior.
