The #1 Mistake Students Make in the Last Week Before Finals

Most students spend their final week re-reading everything. Every chapter, every slide, every note. And it feels productive — until they sit down for the exam and realize they spent 6 hours reviewing material that wasn't even tested.

Here's the thing nobody tells you: not all content is equally testable.

Professors signal what matters. The topics they spend the most lecture time on, the ones that show up on practice exams, the concepts they repeat in review sessions — those are the highest-yield topics. Everything else is noise.

The students who consistently crush finals aren't studying more. They're studying smarter. They do three things differently:

1. They sort before they study. Before opening a single textbook, they rank every topic by how likely it is to appear on the exam. Lecture time, past exams, study guides — these are all signals.

2. They cut aggressively. If a topic got 5 minutes of lecture time and never appeared on a practice exam, it's off the list. That's not being lazy — that's being strategic.

3. They build a plan around what's left. Once you know your top 10-15 topics, you can build a realistic day-by-day study plan that covers everything that actually matters.

This is exactly what I built the Finals Focus Worksheet around — a system that walks you through priority sorting, topic tracking, and study planning so you're not guessing during the most stressful week of the semester.

If your finals are coming up and you're feeling the pressure, stop trying to study everything. Start by figuring out what's actually worth studying.
