The brand deal math nobody tells you at 10K-50K subs

Most creators in the 5K-50K sub range undercharge for their first sponsorship by 3-5x. Here's why, and how to fix it.

The mistake: creators quote a flat "vibes-based" number because they don't know what else to do. Brands know this and lowball because it works.

The fix β€” a simple rate floor formula I use with clients:

  • Take your average views over the last 10 videos/episodes

  • Multiply by $0.02-$0.04 per view for a dedicated integration (higher end if your audience has strong purchase intent β€” finance, business, tech)

  • That's your floor. Never quote below it, even to "get your foot in the door."

The leverage most people miss: brands don't just pay for reach, they pay for trust. If your audience actually acts on your recommendations (comments asking "where do I buy this"), you can charge above the view-based floor β€” sometimes 2x.

The negotiation line that works almost every time:

"Happy to make this work β€” my rate for a dedicated segment is $X, but I can offer a package deal if you're interested in a multi-episode run."

This reframes a "no" into a bigger deal instead of killing the conversation.

Most creators lose money not because their audience is too small, but because they never learn to negotiate. That's the actual gap we built Vantage Talent to close β€” happy to answer questions on rates/negotiation in the comments.
