Real Vinted Flip: How to Turn a £4 Charity Shop Jacket into £32 Net Profit

Exact flip breakdown

Bought a branded jacket in a UK charity shop for £4.00. Listed it on Vinted and sold it for £38.00.

Fees (as they actually hit this sale)

  • Purchase price: £4.00

  • Vinted buyer protection: £0.70 + 5% of the item price

    • 5% of £38.00 = £1.90

    • Protection total = £0.70 + £1.90 = £2.60 (paid by the buyer on checkout, not deducted from your payout)

  • Postage: buyer chose a tracked option at checkout (you set the rates; you are not eating mystery postage if you list the real options)

Net margin after all seller-side costs

Sold price: £38.00

Minus purchase: £4.00

Minus any seller postage you covered (this listing used buyer-paid postage): £0.00

Minus incidental (bag, steam, photos): ~£1.90

Take-home: £32.10

That is the calculator method: item price, protection formula (£0.70 + 5%), postage who-pays-what, then leftover cash. Do not “feel” the profit. Run the numbers before you buy.

3 brand tags to hunt on high-street coats this autumn

  1. Barbour (and Barbour-licensed high-street collabs) — waxed and quilted coats still move fast if the lining is intact.

  2. The North Face — fleece-lined parkas and puffers; check zips and hoods before you pay.

  3. Ralph Lauren (Polo / Lauren Ralph Lauren) — wool and quilted jackets; look at the inner neck label, not just the outer badge.

Skip anything with odour you cannot steam out, broken zips, or heavy pilling. Those kill the £32-style margin.

Free breakdown: turning a £4 Ralph Lauren polo into £22 net profit

Here’s a real flip you can copy this weekend.

The item

Ralph Lauren polo, size M, navy, no stains, collar in good shape. Bought from a charity shop bin, not a “designer” stall.

Buy price: £4.00

What I spent after that

  • Vinted buyer protection / seller fee on the sale: £2.20

  • Packaging (poly mailer I already bulk-bought): £0.18

  • Postage (Vinted tracked, small parcel): £3.49

  • Total costs: £4.00 + £2.20 + £0.18 + £3.49 = £9.87

Sale price: £32.00 (listed at £35, accepted a sensible offer after 11 hours)

Net profit: £32.00 − £9.87 = £22.13

Why this one worked

  1. Buy under £5 when the brand is obvious on the label and the photos will look clean.

  2. Photograph on a plain background, collar and logo close-up, one size-tag shot.

  3. List the same day. Don’t sit on it “waiting for the perfect price.”

  4. Take the first fair offer if it still clears £20 net. Speed beats extra pounds on a polo.

24-hour timeline

  • 10:00 buy

  • 10:40 photos + list

  • 21:15 offer accepted

  • Next-day drop-off

How to calculate net profit before buying Vinted clothing bundles

Here’s a real UK Vinted flip so you can see the maths before you buy a bundle.

Example: 8-item women’s clothing bundle, listed locally.

Line

Amount

Buy cost (bundle)

£12.00

Seller postage allowance (you pay to ship)

£3.49

Packaging (mailer + tape)

£0.80

Buyer Protection / Vinted fees (typical on this sale)

£2.15

Sale price

£28.00

Net profit in 24 hours: £28.00 − £12.00 − £3.49 − £0.80 − £2.15 = £9.56

That’s about 80% on the buy, after postage, packaging, and protection, not the headline sale price.

Before you tap Buy:

  1. Subtract postage you will actually pay, not the buyer’s postage.

  2. Subtract buyer protection / seller fees on the expected sale.

  3. Subtract packaging.

  4. Only buy if leftover profit is still worth your time.

If the leftover is under ~£5 on a small bundle, skip it.

Exact Net Profit Breakdown: How to flip fast on Vinted UK

Exact net profit breakdown: vintage sportswear jacket, flipped in 24 hours

Bought it for £4. Listed same day. Sold for £28 within 24 hours.

Here is what actually landed in pocket, not the sold price.

Numbers

  • Buy price: £4.00

  • Sold price: £28.00

  • Vinted buyer protection / seller fees: budget about 5–8% of the sale (on this one I treated it as ~£1.70)

  • Postage allowance: I priced postage so the buyer paid shipping. I did not eat Royal Mail out of profit. Allowance in the listing: enough to cover a small parcel, not a “free postage” giveaway.

In pocket

£28 sale − £4 buy − ~£1.70 fees ≈ £22.30 net.

That is the number that matters. Sold price is vanity. Net after buy, fees, and postage is what you keep.

How to do this fast

  1. Buy cheap, obvious demand (vintage sportswear still moves).

  2. Photograph clean, list the same day.

  3. Price so postage is covered. Do not hide a loss in “free delivery”.

  4. Know the buyer protection cut before you celebrate.

Quick-Start Profit Checklist: What to Look For Before You Buy

Quick-start: 5 UK high-street brands with immediate 3x resale margins

Before you tap Buy, run this 3-step inspection. It is built for UK clothing flips on Vinted.

The 5 brands to hunt first

Next, Zara, H&M, Primark, and River Island. These names move fast when the price, size, and condition are right. Aim for listings where your all-in cost is about one third of a realistic sold price.

Step 1. Condition grading

Open every photo. Check seams, collars, cuffs, underarms, and the inside label. Reject stains, pilling, missing buttons, and stretched necks. Grade as new-with-tags, excellent, or good. Anything below good is not a 3x candidate.

Step 2. Fee deduction

Write down asking price + postage you will pay. Subtract Vinted buyer protection and seller fees, plus your own postage out. If the leftover profit is not at least 2x your cash outlay (heading to 3x on a clean sold comp), skip it.

Step 3. 24h sell-through check

Search the same brand, category, size, and colour. Count how many similar items sold or were marked reserved in the last 24 hours. If nothing moved, the margin is theoretical. You want evidence it will leave your wardrobe this week.

Do this on every buy. It keeps dead stock off your rails and cash cycling.
