Why most small business websites don't bring in customers (and how to fix it)
I've built sites for dozens of local businesses — restaurants, salons, contractors, you name it. And the #1 mistake I see?
They built a website, not a sales tool.
Your website shouldn't just "exist." It should actively bring people through your door. Here's the framework I use for every client:
1. Above the fold = one clear action
Not "Welcome to our website." That does nothing. Instead: "Book your free consultation" or "Order online now." One button. One outcome.
2. Social proof within 3 seconds
Google reviews, before/afters, testimonials. People trust other people more than your copy. Put this high on the page.
3. Mobile-first, always
70%+ of your traffic is on a phone. If your site looks clunky on mobile, you're losing money every single day.
4. Speed kills (in a good way)
If your page takes more than 3 seconds to load, 53% of visitors bounce. Compress images, clean code, fast hosting. Non-negotiable.
5. Local SEO built in
Your Google Business profile, NAP consistency, schema markup — these are what get you showing up when someone searches "best salon near me."
If your current site isn't generating leads, it's not a website problem. It's a strategy problem. That's what I fix.
