I've seen it happen over and over: a couple plans a beautiful outdoor ceremony, the day arrives, and one weather problem turns the whole thing into a scramble.

Here are the five most common ones — and what you can actually do about each.

1. Direct sun in guests' eyes during the ceremony

This is the #1 complaint at outdoor weddings and almost nobody plans for it. Check where the sun will be at your exact ceremony time. If it's hitting the seating area, you need shade — a canopy, market umbrellas, or natural tree cover repositioned.

2. Heat with no airflow

Guests in formal clothes, sitting in the sun, with no breeze. People leave. Plan for portable fans, misting stations, or at minimum — shorten the ceremony. A 20-minute ceremony in heat is fine. A 45-minute one is not.

3. No water available before or during the ceremony

Hydration stations aren't just for the reception. Place water at the ceremony entrance and at the end of each row. Glass carafes with cups look elegant and solve the problem.

4. Rain with no plan B

"We'll just hope it doesn't rain" is not a plan. Decide now: tent backup, clear umbrellas at every seat, or a covered walkway to an indoor alternative. Make the call early so vendors can prepare.

5. Wind destroying the setup

Lightweight arches, paper programs, and unsecured fabric all become problems in wind. Use weighted bases, skip loose paper, and test your setup in a breeze before the day.
