The dishes fight is never about the dishes

It's Sunday. You already know which fight is coming.

Dishes. Money. Tone. Who never follows through. You could script both sides before anyone opens their mouth. That is not a bad relationship. That is a loop with no exit.

The loop survives because you argue the topic and never leave with a next step. Someone goes quiet. Someone wins. You both go to bed. Thursday it is back, same fight, different excuse.

Do this tonight. Ten minutes. Not a talk.

1. Name the loop, not the person.

"We have this fight every Sunday" is usable. "You always do this" starts round two.

2. Ask one question, then stop.

"What would make this feel finished for you tonight?" Wait. If you keep talking, you are not asking.

3. Leave with one sentence you can both repeat.

Not a feeling. A next step. "I'll handle bedtime. You do the dishes before 9." Say it out loud. That is the whole point.

If you walk away without that sentence, you did not finish the argument. You paused it.

I put this in a free 10-minute guide. Use it before bed.

You didn't resolve it. You just stopped talking.

The same fight comes back every week for one reason: it never ends with a next step.

It ends with someone going quiet. Or someone winning. Or both of you pretending it didn't happen. By Thursday it is back, usually about dishes, money, tone, or "you never listen" — which is never the real issue.

Here is the 10-minute version.

1. Name the loop, not the person.

"We have this fight every Sunday" is usable. "You always do this" starts round two.

2. Ask one question.

"What would make this feel finished for you tonight?" Then stop talking until they answer.

3. Leave with one sentence you both can repeat.

Not a feeling. A next step. "I'll handle bedtime; you'll handle the dishes before 9." Write it down. That is the whole point.

If you walk away without that sentence, you did not finish the argument. You paused it.

Do this once this week. If the same fight still returns, you need the full system, not another pep talk.
