Why 90% of NFL Player Prop Bettors Lose Before the Week Even Starts
Here's the problem nobody talks about: most prop bettors are working from the same public information — beat reporter injury updates, box score trends, and recency bias from last week's game.
The line is already priced for all of that.
The edge in player props doesn't come from working harder on public data. It comes from knowing what that data actually means in context.
A few things I track that most bettors ignore:
Practice squad movement mid-week. When a team elevates a player Wednesday, it tells you something about who's actually healthy — not just who's listed as questionable. That changes target share and snap projections in ways the line doesn't fully reflect for 12-24 hours.
Scheme-specific usage vs. game script. A receiver's receptions prop is at 4.5. Last 4 games: 6, 7, 5, 6. Looks like a hammer. But if the offense projects run-heavy in a favorable matchup protecting a lead, his targets dry up in the second half. That 4.5 is a trap.
Line move timing. Sharp money on props typically hits Tuesday evening into Wednesday morning, before casual money moves in Thursday-Friday. If you're checking lines Saturday, you're already behind.
