I spent $12K testing YouTube automation niches โ€” here's what actually works in 2027

Most people picking a YouTube automation niche are doing it wrong. They're chasing what's "trending" instead of what's profitable.

After testing 8 different niches over the past year, here's the brutal truth:

The niches that LOOK exciting usually make the least money.

Gaming? $2-4 CPM. Entertainment compilations? Gets views, but advertisers don't pay for it.

Meanwhile, the "boring" niches are printing:

  • Personal Finance channels are pulling $20-35 CPM. A 200K view video makes $4,000-$7,000 from ads alone.

  • Business case studies โ€” tell the story of how companies failed or succeeded. High CPM + massive sponsorship potential.

  • AI explainers โ€” the demand is insane right now and there aren't enough quality channels covering it.

The formula is simple: High CPM ร— Evergreen content ร— Outsource-friendly production = money printer.

The biggest mistake I see? People trying to be original with their first channel. Don't. Find what's already working, study the format, and execute it better and more consistently.

Your first channel isn't supposed to be creative. It's supposed to be profitable. Creativity comes at channel #3 when you have cash flow.

The second biggest mistake? Not building a team early enough. You should be hiring a scriptwriter and editor by video #5 โ€” not trying to do everything yourself until you burn out at month 2.

YouTube automation isn't passive income on day 1. But by month 6-8 with the right niche and team, you can have a channel generating $3-5K/month while you spend less than 5 hours a week on it.

That's the real play.
