5 technique fixes that instantly made me faster on trail
I've been riding MTB seriously for years and these are the things that actually moved the needle for me — not gear upgrades, not fitness, just technique.
1. Look where you want to go, not at what you want to avoid. Sounds obvious but most riders stare at the rock they don't want to hit. Your bike follows your eyes. Train yourself to look through corners and past obstacles.
2. Drop your heels on descents. Heavy feet, light hands. Most beginners death-grip the bars and go stiff. Drop your heels, bend your knees, let the bike move under you.
3. Brake before the corner, not in it. Scrubbing speed mid-turn washes out your front wheel. Get your braking done before you tip in, then let the bike roll.
4. Pump the terrain. Instead of just rolling over bumps, push into the backside of them. Free speed, less effort, way more flow.
5. Commit to features. Half-sending is more dangerous than full-sending. If you're going to hit a drop or a jump, commit. Hesitation causes crashes.
I break all of these down in detail (with video) in my MTB Skills Course. Progressive program from basics to race-level technique.
