Hello! My name is Nav, I am 43 years old and I live in London with my wife and two children aged 7 and 4. After 20 years of working in healthcare, I decided to transition into a new career and start my own business. Despite being told it was "too late" and "it's too risky to change careers in your 40s, when you have a mortgage and young children" - I decided to take small steps that eventually compounded into the empowerment I needed to shift careers.
So many of my friends feel stuck in their jobs, mainly because they fear the loss of a stable job that pays the bills. I completely understand that, because I am in the same situation. When you have children to raise, nothing can be more unnerving. However, I have discovered a way to make a step by step transition without quitting the job that pays the bills.
I believe anyone in their 40s can have a fulfilling and purpose filled career. If executed strategically, career transitions, can be the most liberating experience that offer deep level growth and autonomy. This can all happen while you continue to pay your mortgage and raise your children.
