I've helped moderate servers with 10k+ members. Here are the biggest mistakes I see:

1. No auto-mod = chaos. If you're manually deleting spam in 2026, you're wasting hours every week. Set up keyword filters and link blockers on day one.

2. Logging nothing. When drama happens (and it will), you need receipts. Message edits, deletes, joins, bans — log everything to a private channel.

3. Too many roles, zero structure. 47 color roles and no moderation hierarchy. Your mods need clear permissions. Keep it simple.

4. Ignoring raid protection. Gaming servers are raid targets. If you don't have auto-lockdown when 20 accounts join in 30 seconds, you're asking for trouble.

5. No welcome flow. New members join and see chaos. Set up a rules channel with verification and an onboarding message.
