After helping students through their A&P exams, I keep seeing the same questions trip people up. Here's what to focus on:

1. Weight & Balance calculations — The FAA loves multi-step W&B problems. Most people mess up the moment arm, not the math. Draw it out every time.

2. Regulations & Documentation — AC 43.13 vs. the manufacturer's maintenance manual. Know when each one takes priority. The answer is almost always the manufacturer's manual.

3. Hardware identification — AN, MS, and NAS bolt markings. You need to identify them by sight, not just know they exist. Flash cards are your friend here.

4. Electrical fundamentals — Ohm's Law isn't hard, but series vs. parallel circuit troubleshooting trips people up under pressure. Practice until it's automatic.

5. Corrosion types and treatment — Intergranular vs. stress corrosion vs. filiform. The FAA wants you to know both identification AND the correct treatment method.

If you're prepping for your General written, nail these five areas and you'll be ahead of 80% of test-takers.
