I started learning AI at 65. Here's what I wish someone had told me on day one.
Six months ago, I couldn't tell you the difference between ChatGPT and a chatbot on a banking website.
Now I use AI every single day — to draft emails, research ideas, plan my week, and build an entire online business from scratch.
Here are the 3 things I wish I'd known from the start:
1. You don't need to understand how it works to use it well.
You don't understand how your car engine works either. You still drive. Same principle. Focus on what AI can DO for you, not how the model was trained.
2. The best prompt isn't clever — it's clear.
Forget the "hacks." Just tell the AI exactly what you need, who it's for, and what tone you want. Clarity beats cleverness every time.
3. Start with one task you already do manually.
Don't try to "automate your whole life." Pick one thing — a weekly email, a social post, a meeting summary — and let AI handle it. Once that clicks, everything else follows.
I built The AI Edge because nobody was teaching this stuff to people like me. Professionals over 40 who just want practical results without the jargon.
If that's you, come say hello. We're learning together.
