Why most AI-generated landing pages don't convert (and the fix nobody talks about)
I've reviewed over 300 landing pages in the last 18 months.
The ones that fail — even the ones with "good copy" — almost always have the same root problem:
The avatar research is shallow.
Here's what I mean. Most people do avatar research like this:
Age 25-45
Struggling entrepreneur
Wants more revenue
That's demographic data. It tells you almost nothing about what words to use on a page.
The copy that actually converts is built from psychographic depth — the specific phrases people use when they're alone, frustrated, typing into Google at 11pm. The language of the internal monologue.
Here's a 3-step version you can run tonight:
1. Mine 1-star reviews of competing products. Not to learn what's bad — to find the exact vocabulary your buyer uses when they're disappointed. This is the language of unmet desire. Use it in your headline.
2. Run a "before state" interview. Ask 5 people who recently bought your solution: "What was the one thing you kept trying that wasn't working before you found this?" Their answer is your page's problem-statement section — written in their words, not yours.
3. Build your Objection Map before you write a single word. List every reason someone would click away from your page. Then write one sentence per objection that neutralizes it. These become your FAQ, your bullet points, and your guarantee framing.
AI does the drafting. This research does the converting.
Most people skip straight to prompting. They wonder why their pages don't sell.
