The 15 minutes after landing are what actually stress travelers out
I used to think I was bad at travel. Turns out I was just bad at the 15 minutes after landing.
Every solo trip, same story: I'd get off the plane fine, then completely fall apart between baggage claim and the curb. Rideshare surge pricing, a driver who "doesn't see my pickup," someone in a polo shirt insisting the taxi line is "closed today, follow me" — and I'd just freeze and overpay or get in the wrong car because deciding felt harder than the whole flight.
The fix wasn't a better app. It was having the decision already made before I landed.
So I built a system for myself: a short worksheet I fill out during the flight (or even the night before) that locks in my ground transport choice, my backup option, my price ceiling, and the exact script I say if someone tries to pressure me at the curb. By the time I land, there's nothing left to decide — I just execute.
It's genuinely changed how airports feel to me. Less scanning the crowd for a name sign that isn't there, less mental math on whether $85 for a 20-minute ride is a scam or just surge pricing, less standing frozen while a line forms behind me.
If you're a solo traveler who's had that same "why am I panicking in an airport" moment, it might be worth building your own version of this before your next trip — even just three questions on a sticky note: your primary ride option, your backup, and your max price. That alone removes most of the stress.
Safe travels out there. 🧳
