Why Your Surface Protection Tape Keeps Failing (And How to Fix It)

If you're in electronics manufacturing and your protective film leaves residue, bubbles during lamination, or peels off too early — it's almost always one of three things:

1. Wrong peel strength for the surface

A glass display panel needs completely different adhesion than a brushed aluminum sheet. Most buyers pick "medium tack" and hope for the best. That's how you get callbacks and rework.

  • Smooth glass/displays → 300-750 gf/25mm (PET-based, acrylic adhesive)

  • Rough metal/laminates → 5-50 gf/25mm (PE-based, low tack)

  • PCB masking under heat → 600-700 gf/25mm (Kapton/Polyimide, silicone PSA)

2. Ignoring the temperature profile

Standard acrylic adhesive tapes work up to ~120°C. If your process hits 200°C+ (solder reflow, coating ovens), you need polyimide with silicone PSA — rated to 260°C continuous, 400°C short bursts.

3. Skipping anti-static treatment

For display panels and optical films, regular PET tape builds static charge during application and removal. That static attracts dust particles under the film. Anti-static treated PET eliminates this entirely.

We've been manufacturing these tapes for 4+ years out of Greater Noida and supply directly to electronics OEMs across India. If you want the right spec the first time, join our catalog — it's free.
