Why most med spas plateau at $30-40k/month (and how to break it)
We coach medical aesthetics clinic owners, and see the same wall almost every time: a clinic hits $30-40k/month within the first year, then flatlines for 12-18 months straight.
It's never a demand problem. Aesthetics is one of the highest-margin, most recession-resistant categories out there. It's almost always one of three things:
1. No actual sales system. The owner (or a single injector) is doing consults AND treatments AND marketing AND payroll. Consults get rushed, follow-up never happens, and 60%+ of leads go cold. A dedicated consult-to-close process alone can add $10-15k/month without a single new lead.
2. Marketing that's all "post and pray." Instagram reels are great for brand, terrible for pipeline. Clinics that break through have a retention engine (membership/subscription models, birthday month offers, referral incentives) running in the background so growth doesn't depend on going viral every month.
3. No systems for the owner to step back. If revenue is capped by how many consults YOU personally can run, you don't have a business — you have a very demanding job. The clinics that scale past $50k build SOPs, hire and train a patient coordinator, and get the owner out of the day-to-day.
None of this is complicated. It's just rarely taught — most clinic owners come from a clinical background, not a business one. That's the entire gap we built Ascend MBA to close.
