Most people think great interior design is about having expensive furniture. It's not.

After years in the industry, I've found it comes down to three things:

1. Scale & Proportion

The #1 mistake? Furniture that's the wrong size for the room. That oversized sectional in a small living room isn't cozy — it's claustrophobic. Before buying anything, measure your space and sketch a floor plan. Every piece should breathe.

2. Layered Lighting

A single overhead light kills any room. Professional interiors use at least three sources: ambient (overhead), task (desk/reading lamps), and accent (architectural or decorative). This creates depth and mood.

3. The 60-30-10 Color Rule

60% dominant color (walls, large furniture), 30% secondary (upholstery, curtains), 10% accent (pillows, art, decor). This ratio creates visual harmony every time.

Master these three and you'll design rooms that feel intentional, not accidental.
