Why 75% of resumes get rejected before a human ever sees them
Most job seekers don't realize they're not competing against other candidates β they're competing against software.
Here's how ATS (Applicant Tracking Systems) actually work:
The keyword game. When a recruiter posts a job for "Project Manager," the ATS doesn't just look for that title. It scans for specific phrases like "stakeholder management," "Agile methodology," "cross-functional teams." If your resume says "I managed projects" instead, you're invisible.
Formatting kills. Fancy templates from Canva? Headers and footers? Multi-column layouts? ATS parsers choke on all of it. Your beautiful resume gets turned into gibberish.
The 6-second myth is worse than you think. Even if your resume passes the ATS, recruiters spend ~6 seconds on it. If your bullet points don't immediately show IMPACT (not just responsibilities), you're done.
What actually works:
Mirror the exact language from the job description
Use a single-column, clean format
Start bullets with action verbs + measurable results
Include both the spelled-out term AND the acronym (e.g., "Search Engine Optimization (SEO)")
I built ATS-Master because I was tired of seeing qualified people get filtered out by bots. The tool scores your resume against any job description in real-time and rewrites your bullets to match.
If you're job hunting right now, stop mass-applying with the same resume. Customize for each role. That alone puts you ahead of 90% of applicants.
